Delete your account
You can delete your TaxCare account yourself, from inside the app or on the web. This page explains what happens and what we keep.
How to delete your account
- Sign in with your registered mobile number and the OTP we send.
- Open Profile and go to Danger Zone.
- Choose Delete Account and confirm.
What deletion does
- Your account is deactivated straight away and you are signed out on every device. Nobody can sign in to it again.
- Saved devices, notification tokens and your nominee are removed.
- The rest of your data — including your identifiers (mobile number, PAN, name) and the encrypted Income Tax portal password — is kept securely and not used until the periods in the next section end. We are building automatic erasure at the end of those periods. You can ask our Grievance Officer to confirm what we still hold.
What we keep, and for how long
Deleting your account does not erase your data at once. We keep it securely, and do not use it, for these periods:
- Filed income tax returns and tax records: 6 years from the date of filing, even after you delete your account. Then erased, unless a legal hold applies.
- Everything else (account details, tax profiles, payments and invoices, messages, support tickets, chat, Tax Expert order records, logs and audit records): up to 8 years. Automatic erasure at the end of that period is being built.
- Your consent history, kept as proof of consent for the same period as the records it supports.
- Documents of a cancelled or refunded Tax Expert order are erased after 30 days.
